HAWC CelebrateS 26th annual conference “LEARN, LAUGH, THRIVE – A FULFILLING LIFE” November 1-2, 2019 iN CHICAGO, iLLINOIS
To Chicago, Illinois … The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) is having its 26th Annual Conference November 1-2, 2019 at the Union League Club of Chicago. HAWC will celebrate its 26th Annual Conference with a lively and inspiring discussion on the theme “Learn, Laugh, Thrive – A Fulfilling Life” and with the presentation of the prestigious Aristeon Award to the conference Honoree and Keynote Speaker, Maria Pappas, Cook County Treasurer.
Aristeon Award Recipient – Maria Pappas
Maria Pappas will be awarded the Aristeon Award in recognition of her life achievements which include serving as the Cook County Treasurer since 1998. Prior to that, she served two terms on the Cook County Board of Commissioners. She will share her personal reflections.
As Treasurer, Ms. Pappas tripled the amount of interest earned by the Treasurer's office and uncovered a scam run by her predecessor. She has been re-elected five times: 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018. She was the chief proponent of the Cook County Debt Disclosure Ordinance, passed in 2009, which requires taxing districts to publicly report their finances, including pension debt. Conference Program – Focuses on Living a Fulfilling Life
The 26th Conference opens with a welcome reception at the Cite’ Restaurant at the top of the Lake Point Tower on Friday, November 1, 2019 hosted by Dame Dr. Evangeline Gouletas. The conference continues Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Union League Club, 65 W. Jackson Boulevard in Chicago. The program kicks off with a group of empowering panelists discussing the theme of Learn, Laugh, Thrive - A Fulfilling Life. Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with the speakers and share personal stories.

Members and guests will be invited to share their stories of thriving through difficult circumstances. The conference will conclude with a laughter experience session by Lynda Tourloukis, Certified Laughter Yoga Master Trainer. Throughout the day there will be opportunities for networking and viewing art, books and other handicrafts by members, sponsors, authors and guests.
