Welcome to the HAWC Conference in Spetses, Greece!
The venue for the HAWC conference is the famous Anargyreios & Korgialeneios Foundation, a historical and cultural heritage site on Spetses, Greece. It was built in 1927 by Sotirios Anargyros, a Spetsiotis from New York, and Marinos Korgialenis from the island of Cephalonia, as the first private boarding school to open in free Greece after 400 years with no secular Greek education system. It was based on the famous British schools of Eton and Harrow, and it was the inspiration behind the John Fowles Novel “The Magus” who was a professor at the school. The school became a prestigious multicultural and pioneering educational institution with excellent teachers and facilities. Although it stopped operating as a school in 1983 it is autonomously run as a Foundation by an executive committee under the auspices for the Greek Ministry of Education, and the neoclassical buildings are now used for cultural events and historical conferences, like the HAWC conference.
We selected this venue to honor Mrs. Stella Kokolis, a preeminent educator, and the 2021 “Aristeon Award” nominee, and to offer the HAWC conference participates a unique experience:
